Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Limited is a major supplier of Broadband Access equipment in Europe. It is Fujitsu's global design location for access network solutions, and represents a centre of excellence for the development of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technology. From its base in Birmingham, West Midlands, Fujitsu designs, develops and manufactures telecommunications technology for European network operators and service providers. The company operates its own network support and field services divisions, including a 24/7 Network Operations Centre, while also providing a range of managed services. Fujitsu’s technology accounts for over five million lines of DSL broadband in the UK alone and the company’s Multi-Service Access Node (MSAN) solutions are playing a key role in the deployment of BT’s 21st Century Network (21CN). The company’s advanced technology has resulted in the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation 2005.
Fujitsu GeoStream Access Gateway – Award-Winning MSAN Technology
The core technology behind Fujitsu’s MSAN for the 21CN is the company’s GeoStream Access Gateway, which provides a common platform supporting fibre and copper terminations across a wide range of existing and next-generation end-user services. The GeoStream Access Gateway supports an extensive cross-section of residential and business IP services, which – for the 21CN – are managed and groomed over Gigabit Ethernet backhaul circuits onto BT’s Metro Network.
The Fujitsu MSAN platform delivers H.248 voice interoperability, enabling the simultaneous delivery of broadband and voice services. The multi-service capability of the GeoStream Access Gateway offers support for the widest breadth of service delivery, including, for example, ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2+, SDSL, VDSL, Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, PON, GPON, WiMAX, SDH and PDH – all from the same platform, and therefore vastly reducing the operational cost of the Access Network.
Fujitsu’s Integrated Vision
European network operators and service providers face the challenge of managing business transformation in today's highly competitive market - finding the best means of investing in next generation networks to support the services of the future, while maintaining their existing customer-base and revenue streams. The answer lies in implementing innovative strategies for network migration that allow legacy platforms to be retired – and new, converged networks to be deployed – enabling end-users to be offered a rich mix of services and applications.
