BT people join ITP board.

Two BT people have been appointed to the board of the Institute of Telecommunications Professionals (ITP) - the leading independent professional authority for the telecoms industry in the UK.

Paul Excell, group technology officer in the group chief technology office, and Duncan Gray, general manager of policy and standards at Openreach, were appointed to the ITP board at its recent annual meeting.

The ITP aims to improve working practices within the industry by promoting professional development programmes based on informing its members about the latest developments in technology and industry trends.

It also provides a variety of networking events designed to improve communication, inspire broader thinking and promote best practice among members.

It also encourages personal and professional growth through a wide range of career development programmes.
Duncan, who is also chairman of the ITP's Scottish region, is particularly keen on the advances ITP's new website has made in recent months - giving access to a range of services that aim to inform on technology, help members to network better and provide new ways to develop professional and technical skills.

"The ITP is really starting to hit its stride and now a lot of work is going on with other developments that will change the way our industry learns. This is a very exciting time to be a member," said Duncan.

Duncan and Paul are two of three new members appointed to the ITP's eight-strong board. The third is Kyle Whitehill, director of Vodafone's enterprise division.

Paul said: "I am delighted to join the ITP board to help drive learning and accreditation programmes for the global networked IT services industry. From tackling climate change to driving global economic development, the winners in the 21st century will be those individuals and organisations that can predict, learn and adapt to the fantastic opportunities in our industry."

Both Paul and Duncan are keen to engage ITP members to understand their ideas, views and needs. Paul said: "The ITP is there for members and as a new board member I'm very keen to hear all views to help develop strategic plans and priorities."
