The ITP has achieved Approved Provider Standard (APS) with the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation (MBF).
Following an ITP survey which revealed that a quarter of ITP members would like to be involved in a mentoring scheme, either as a mentor or a mentee. The ITP therefore developed a unique cross-industry mentoring scheme.
This scheme has been assessed and approved by the MBF, thus gaining APS status. APS Status is a national benchmark for organisations providing mentoring and befriending as a service. Supported by the Government, it aims to provide programmes with a badge of competence and safe practice in mentoring and befriending.
By achieving APS, the ITP cross-industry mentoring scheme has met the key management and operational requirements of the Standard and is designed to deliver a quality service.
Feedback from the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation:
· The assessment confirmed the clear supervisory structure in place to support the project and the preparation process for participants;
· Mentors are appropriately screened and are then given the relevant training and guidance.
· A careful matching procedure is in operation.
· On-going support is provided once the relationship has begun.
· There is also evidence that the project is formally evaluated to assess its overall progress and effectiveness.
