Become a Mentee

The ITP Mentoring Scheme is a cross-industry initiative for members – giving them a unique opportunity to meet and be mentored by experienced figures from all across the telecoms sector.

The scheme aims to provide members who want to be mentored (‘mentees’) with the following:
• The opportunity to meet and be mentored by experienced figures in the communications industry and other professions
• Help and support to develop and refine their personal and professional skills
• The opportunity to learn about working practices in different companies
• A confidential and open environment to discuss any issues or concerns, and to seek objective advice.

How long do mentoring relationships usually last?

You can expect to be involved with your mentor:
• For at least a 4 – 6 month period when you will meet each other once every 2 – 4 weeks for 1 to 2 hours
• Also, by occasional email and telephone contact between meetings

Training and Support

- All mentors will be required to successfully complete an online Induction Programme followed by a skills practice conference call session.
- All mentees will also receive an online training course so they understand their role in the relationship and the commitment ITP expect of them.
- ITP will provide you with a 'Mentee Pack' which will offer guidance, ideas and advice to guide you both through the sessions.
- You will have access to our helpdesk for the period of time you are in a mentoring relationship.

What happens if the relationship doesn't work out?

There may be a number of reasons why a mentoring relationship may finish early. Either the mentor or mentee may move away, start a new job or perhaps you just can't work together.

Most often, a relationship ends early because of factors outside of the control of the mentor and mentee, but, to avoid either of you feeling a failure or rejected, efforts should be made to talk to the other person and explain why one partner is unable to continue. If this is not possible, you will be able to contact a member of the ITP training team who will pass on the appropriate information.
