CPD can be defined as, “the term for a framework of learning and development activities, which are seen as contributing to one's continued effectiveness as a professional.” This can include a range of activities but all of which should ideally be planned. Typically CPD can involve:
- work based learning and development
- in-house and external training courses
- attendance at seminars, workshops and conferences
- qualification update and progression
- informal activities (research in professional journals, internet network groups, attending committee meetings)
- reading professional journals and magazine
CPD may also include personal interests (professional association activities, hobbies and leisure pursuits) but what is allowed as formal CPD by a Professional Body is defined by them.
