Professional Registration gives you certified recognition of your competence and knowledge. There are many benefits of professional registration for you and for BT.

The Streamlined application route is available to graduated BT Apprentices who have fully completed* either:

•         Communications Technology Professional (CTP) NVQ or
•         Information Communication Technology and Contact Centre (ICT + CC) NVQ

If you did a different NVQ, then you should find you are able to apply for ICTTech and will need to apply through the standard application process which is outlined here.

When can Apprentices apply for professional registration?

Apprentices are welcome to apply for professional registration at anytime. However, it is recommended that Apprentices wait until they have completed their apprenticeship, to ensure they can demonstrate the requisite competence (experience) and underpinning knowledge and understanding.

The streamlined application route is only available to graduated Apprentices.

Ready to register?

•         Read information about ICTTech qualification on the Engineering Council website.
•         You must be a current full individual member of the ITP.
•         You must have successfully completed an apprenticeship with BT. The NVQ you completed as part of your apprenticeship must be CTP or ICT + CC.
•         Ensure you have all of the certificates required:
        .  Apprenticeship certificate
        .  NVQ certificate
        .  NVQ Unit listing
        .  Technical certificates (e.g. BTECs)

        Ask your manager to sign copies of these certificates declaring that they are verified.

Completing your application:

•         Sign up as an IET Lite Associate Member to enable you to apply.
•         Wait for email from IET with your IET membership number. (Note – the customer number given with your payment receipt is not your membership number).
•         Download the streamlined application form.
•         Complete the application form and check you have attached all necessary documentation.

Application Assessment

•        Send off your application form, certificates and cheque to the IET for the Application Fee of £52 to IET,PO Box 96, Stevenage, SG1 2SD
•         IET conduct peer assessment process on your application form.
•         IET will assess your application and may ask for further information.  Depending on the exact units you completed, the IET may ask for further information to support the application.
•         If successful, the IET will ask you to pay a one-off registration fee to the Engineering Council of £15.  -costs
•         Successful applicants will now be awarded professional registration.
•         Annual ITP, IET & Engineering Council fees payable to maintain registration.  - costs

Notes:

If you finished your apprenticeship before January 2007, you need to supplement your application with a brief summary of current, relevant experience. This will help the assessors see that your experience is up-to-date.

Assuming you have completed one of the above apprentice programmes, the application process should be relatively simple. The IET registration coordinators will keep you informed about the progress of your application. 

* Depending on the exact units you completed, the IET may ask for further information to support the application or possibly advise that you need to complete a Standard Application form.
