Registration Process
If you are already an IET member please email your CV to registration@theitp.org, then a registration advisor will contact you to discuss your application.
The IET operates a stage-by-stage application process for professional registration. The process flow below
shows stages before and after submitting an application for professional registration. The hyperlinks provide further information to help you decide whether you are ready to apply and how to prepare your application.
The length of time taken depends on how much information and further competencies you may need to acquire, gather and document. The effort is well worthwhile because registration affords many benefits. The IET’s dedicated team of professional registration advisors are available to assist you with your application throughout the process.
You are advised to read through the whole process before beginning your application. Once completed a straightforward application may take around 20 weeks to process. Your IET registration coordinator will keep you updated with the progress of your application including any changes to the expected processing time.
If you are a BT Apprentice who started and subsequently completed an apprenticeship* since 18th November 2004, then you are eligible to apply for the ICTTech registration via a Streamlined process.
*Your apprenticeship must be ICT+CC NVQ from Yarnfield.

Notes:
Professional registration is a competence based assessment and as such there is no set time scale for reaching the standard required for registration. This will depend on your own experiences and circumstances.
To become registered, you will need to demonstrate competence, of which technical/engineering knowledge and understanding is a part. If you have any doubts about how you will demonstrate your competence or underpinning knowledge and understanding, you are advised to consult a PRA.
You must continue to pay your annual membership registration fees or your professional registration will lapse. You will then be required to reapply, from the start of the application process, to get your registration reinstated.
