Letters after your name (post-nominals)

Which letters may I use after my name?

All current ITP members may use MITP after their name.

If you have any of the following professional registrations, you may also use the following letters after your name;

•         Chartered Engineer - CEng
•         Incorporated Engineer - IEng
•         Engineering Technician - EngTech
•         ICT Technician - ICTTech

What order should the letters after my name read?

You should always put the post-nominal from the awarding Institute first. So if you got your registration through the ITP-IET programme then apply for FIET, your post-nominals should read Sam Jones CEng, MITP, FIET.

Can I use the IET letters (MIET or TIET or FIET) after my name?

If you wish to use MIET or TIET or FIET you will have to become a full member of the IET at an additional cost to you (rather than an associate member). There is also a separate assessment process to earn the right to use TIET.

If I'm already a member of the IET, may I also use MITP after my name?

Yes. All current ITP members may use MITP after their name.

What are post-nominals?

Post-nominals are the letters after your name, indicating they hold a position, office, honour, registration or membership. e.g. Sam Jones CEng, MITP.

CEng indicates that you are a chartered engineer.
MITP indicates that you are a member of the ITP.
