The ITP would like to invite members, family and friends to this years annual Christmas Family Event called 'Your World in Your Hand: 40 years of the Mobile Phone'
This year's ITP Christmas lecture will explore the fascinating world of the mobile phone, looking at how it has evolved over its 40 year history, seeing how the handset has been transformed from a brick to a modern smartphone, examining how it all works and looking forward to what the future has to offer.
At this event Professor Nigel Linge will be trying to set a 'Guinness Book World Record' for, the largest number of different models of mobile phone brought to a public event. Please come along, join in the fun, and help Nigel with his attempt by bringing along all the different mobile phones that you have.
Also there will be a mobile phone display, a mini exhibition in the venue, over 300 differnt mobiles, so you may like to arrive earlier to look at them. The doors will open at 10.00am. It will also be helpful to arrive earlier if you are bringing mobiles with you because we will have to process and record those for the record attempt. The University maintains a large collection of mobiles for use with their programme of public and schools engagement and if you would like to donate your old mobiles to that collection, then they would be gratefully received.
There will also be an opportunity to meet EE's Principal Network Architect who will also be able to demonstrate 4G.
The cafe on site will open at 10.00am for hot and cold refreshments.
