Title London Region event - Time for Telecoms
Organiser Cambridge Wireless Ltd
Details

ITP members and friends have invited to this fascinating event.

For over 600 years clocks have been an essential part of telecommunication (communication at a distance). We will revisit the topic of timing in telecommunications at a unique event entitled ‘Time for Telecoms’, organised by the Heritage Special Interest Group which will be held in the Science Museum, London on Friday 16th March.

Relaxed in format, this group likes to gather a group of curious individuals who would like to learn more about the clock gallery and the history tory of time in telecommunication networks. The event will start at 16:00 with a tour of the clockmakers gallery in the museum and the Wells Cathedral Clock -  the world’s second oldest working clock. This tour will be followed by series of illuminating presentations and a short film on the speaking clock in the Dana Centre Conference room. The session will conclude with networking drinks. Talks will be heard from:

  • Dr John Haine is the Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor at Bristol University. John will talk about ‘Professor Robertson’s Clock’
  • Stephen Haseldine, FIMC FRSA is the Chairman of Alerter Group plc, Electronic Communications Ltd and Evets Communications Ltd and Wireless Heritage SIG Champion and he will speak on ‘Time for the Hajj'
  • Professor Andy SuttonHeritage SIG champion and EE’s Principle Network Architect will examine The history of synchronisation in digital cellular networks’
